Southeastern's Shallow Repeats as Southland Athlete of the Week

Senior honored after record breaking performance at LSU Relays

Senior Adonson Shallow took home Southland weekly honors on Wednesday
FRISCO, Texas – For the second consecutive week, Southeastern Louisiana senior Adonson Shallow was named the Southland Conference Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week, announced the league office on Wednesday.

Shallow, a Kingston, St. Vincent and the Grenadines native, was awarded after winning two events and setting two school records at the LSU Tiger Relays. The award is the third of the 2009-10 season for the Southland Men's Indoor Field Performer of the Year and the sixth of his career with the Lions.

On Friday in Baton Rouge, Shallow broke the school record in the hammer throw for the second straight week, winning the event with a 220-foot throw. On Saturday, he set a LSU Tiger Relays record in the discus, posting a throw of 190-7 to break the previous record by more than five feet. He capped the event with a second place showing in the shot put, setting a new school mark with a throw of 59 feet, 1.5 inches.

UTSA freshman thrower Katie Bragg took home the league's female weekly honors. After winning the javelin competition at LSU, Lady Lion senior Yvette Schubert was one of three league athletes named to the honorable mention list. A student-athlete must receive 25 percent of the votes from the league's sports information directors in order to qualify for honorable mention.

Shallow and Schubert are among the 11-person contingent the Lions and Lady Lions sent to the Texas Relays, which runs Wednesday through Saturday.
