Shallow Wins Conference Award, Ranked Second in Nation

FRISCO, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana senior Adonson Shallow has been named the Southland Conference men's track and field athlete of the week, while Northwestern State junior Trecey Rew has been named the women's track and field athlete of the week, the league office announced Wednesday.
 
Shallow, a native of Kingston, St. Vincent and the Grenadines (Emmanuel High School) broke his own school record in the hammer throw competition at the Jim Mize Invitational hosted by Louisiana Tech. He threw the implement 217-feet, 7-inches, which is the second best performance in the NCAA this season. Shallow also won the discus competition, launching it 187 feet.
 
Rew, a native of Garland, Texas (Garland High School) won the shot put competition at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, La. with the second-best throw of her career, 51-7 3/4. Her throw places her at No. 6 in the nation. Rew also placed second at the meet in the discus with a throw of 160-9, which is tenth best in the NCAA.
 
Honorable mention for this week's men's award goes to Northwestern State senior Michael Green and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi senior Ozzie Garcia. For the women's award, honorable mention goes to UT Arlington senior Caroline Erlingson and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi junior Kassandrea Son. A student-athlete must receive 25-percent of the votes from the league's SIDs in order to qualify for honorable mention.
 
Each school's SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
