EA's KIRISTEN MCGIRT WATCHES A WARM UP THROW AT THE LSU HIGH SCHOOL CLASSIC
East Ascension's Kiristen McGirt, who will be leaving for the University of Tennessee to continue career with the Volunteers in the coming months, has been named Louisiana's Gatorade Track & Field Player of the Year for 2025.
McGirt made history this year becoming the first female shot putter in Louisiana history to break the 50-0 barrier. She accomplished this early in the season at the Bronco Relays with a throw of 50-4.
The accomplishment ended a flirtation with the feat which began during the indoor season. McGirt threw over 49 feet in three indoor meets starting with an indoor best of 49-7 at the LSU High School Classic.
She went undefeated in both the shot put and the discus and, in the process, accumulated a total of 16 first place awards. Her best throw in the discus came at the Dutchtown Invitational where he had a monster throw of 148-11.
McGirt won the LHSAA Class 5A Outdoor Championship in both the shot put (45-4.5) and discus (145-6). Her performance helped East Ascension finish No. 7 in the state.
She was No. 1 in Louisiana in both events. In the shot put, she is currently ranked No. 6 nationally.
But McGirt didn't just excel in the shot put and discus ring. She excelled at East Ascension High School where she maintained a 3.66 GPA. She also excelled in the community; starting a Bible study at her church and donating her time to the Endeavor Athletics Track Club serving as the throws coach.
