FINAL RESULTS
NORMAN, Okla. – Southeastern Louisiana's men took fifth place at the Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, while the Lion women wound up in 11th. Junior Adonson Shallow again provided the biggest highlight of the day for Southeastern, earning his second individual victory and setting another school record in the process.
Shallow won the shot put competition Saturday with a toss of 60 feet 2 inches (18.34 meters), topping his prior best by nearly three feet. He had previously set the all-time Southeastern mark at 57 feet 2.22 inches (17.43 meters) during the Houston Indoor Opener on Jan. 30, 2010.
This came one day after Shallow won the weight throw event by putting up a mark of 68 feet 11.75 inches (21.02 meters), beating his previous best of 65 feet 10.25 inches (20.07 meters). In addition to being the top mark in school history, it is the all-time greatest for the Southland Conference.
Senior Cory Roberts finished second in heptathlon thanks to fantastic performances in his final three events. He started Saturday with a second place effort in the 1000 meter run (2:55.39), followed it with a third place feat in pole vault (15 feet 3 inches or 4.65 meters) and concluded with a win in 60 meter hurdles (8.21).
Roberts ran the 60 meter hurdles again later in the day, this time specifically for that event's finals. He ran and jumped to a fourth place finish (8.13), bettering his earlier time.
Junior Shannon Grover could not have been any closer to winning the 200 meter dash. He came in second place, just .001 behind the victorious Teddy Williams of UTSA (21.725 to 21.726). Normally, the Southland Conference displays times down to hundredths of a second, but thousandths were needed this time. Grover's time set a new Southeastern record.
Southeastern junior Michael Rheams took home third place honors in triple jump. The Walker native's best mark of the day was recorded at 50 feet 0.5 inches (15.25 meters).
Senior Andon Mitchell ran to a fourth place finish in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.83 seconds. This was the first and only appearance in a Southland Conference event for the TCU transfer, who completes his eligibility with the conclusion of the indoor season.
On the women's side, pole vault was Southeastern's strongest event. Sophomore Lacey Sanchez earned third place after clearing 12 feet 1.5 inches (3.7 meters), setting a new school record. Freshman Brittany Pfantz was close behind in fourth place, as she cleared 11 feet 7.75 inches (3.55 meters).
Junior Judith Schultheis contributed by finishing in sixth place in the 60 meter hurdles (8.79). Sophomore Michelle Ogashi took seventh in triple jump (38 feet 11.5 inches or 11.87 meters).
UTSA won the men's conference championship. Stephen F. Austin earned the women's title.
