LIVE RESULTS

NORMAN, Okla.
Southeastern Louisiana competes in the 2010 Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday at the Mosier Indoor Facility on the campus of the University of Oklahoma. The last time all of the league's teams met, Southeastern won the 2009 men's outdoor title.

Sophomore Kovey Simmons is one of two Lions who rank as the best in their event so far this season. The pole vaulter set a mark of 16 feet (4.88 meters) at the McNeese State Invitational on Jan. 15. Teammate Cory Roberts is not far behind, having cleared 15 feet 7 inches (4.75 meters) at the Jeff Davis Bank Indoor Invitational on Feb. 5, good for third best in the Southland Conference.

Senior Adonson Shallow is the top athlete in weight throw entering the league championship. He set a school record with his toss of 65 feet 10.25 inches (20.07 meters) at the LSU Purple Tiger Invitational on Jan. 22. Shallow also comes into this meet with the second best shot put effort among Southland Conference competitors, setting another a school record of 57 feet 2.25 inches (17.43 meters) at the Houston Indoor Opener on Jan. 30.

“This is a competition where you can throw times, distances and marks out the window,” head coach Sean Brady said. “When you have to line up and beat our people, I feel good about our chances.”

The Southeastern women's contingent includes a pair of top five pole vault athletes. Freshman Brittany Pfantz cleared the second best height in the conference, at 11 feet 7.25 inches (3.54 meters), in the LSU Twilight Invitational on Feb. 19. Sophomore Lacey Sanchez comes in with the fifth best mark, having cleared 11 feet 5.75 inches (3.5 meters) at the Purple Tiger meet.

Also, junior Judith Schultheis enters the meet with the third best 60 meter hurdles time (8.71) and sophomore Michelle Ogashi sports the number five triple jump distance (39 feet 0.25 inches).

Competition begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday, with the 60 meter hurdles portion of the women's pentathlon. Finals in several field events follow at 3 p.m. Trials will be held for running events starting at 5 p.m. The first day of competition ends with the distance medley finals, opening with the women at 8:15 p.m., followed by the men at 8:30 p.m.

Action resumes Saturday at 8:30 a.m. An awards ceremony, scheduled for 5 p.m., marks the conclusion of championship weekend.
