Muhammad, Shallow Win Events in Houston

HOUSTON  A pair of Southeastern Louisiana student-athletes claimed event titles at the Houston Indoor Invitational Friday and Saturday at Yeoman Fieldhouse. Adonson Shallow broke his own school record to win the shot put competition, while teammate Faisal Muhammad topped Shallow to take the weight throw championship.

Shallow’s shot put effort of 57 feet 2.25 inches (17.43 meters) beat out his toss of 55 feet 11.75 inches (17.06 meters) at the LSU Purple Tiger Invitational on Jan. 22.

The weight throw competition was dominated by the Lion men, as three of the top six finishers wore green and gold. Muhammad took the top spot with a mark of 62 feet 8.5 inches (19.11 meters), followed by Shallow in third place at 61 feet 10.5 inches (18.86 inches) and Kyle Francis in sixth place at 56 feet 2 inches (17.12 meters).

The only other top ten finish among Southeastern men was registered byMichael Rheams, who set a personal best in triple jump with a fifth place leap, marked at 47 feet 3.75 inches (14.42).

On the women’s side, Renada Living set a personal best in weight throw. Her mark of 50 feet 10 inches (15.49 meters) was good enough for ninth place. A personal best was also set by Judith Schultheis in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing the event in 8.71 seconds, which put her in sixth place.

The meet was not scored. While there were several highlights, Southeastern did not perform up to its high standards overall.

“It was a great opportunity to see most of our conference peers and assert ourselves as players in the conference race,” head coach Sean Brady said. “Unfortunately, it was a lackluster performance.”

Southeastern returns to Lake Charles for the second time this season on Saturday, Feb. 6, for McNeese Cowboy Indoor Meet II.
