LHSAA Indoor Track and Field Preview

DIVISION I GIRLS:

Scotlandville will most likely be the team to watch out for this weekend. The fact that this team has so many sprinter superstars really seals the deal for a championship trophy. Although this is a great strength for the team, if one cog is out of place, then the whole machine crumbles; but from what we have seen in the past this most likely won't happen. Scotlandville is just a great program year in and year out and will have more of a reliance on point income in relativity to its stout competition of St. Joseph's Academy. It might be more of a challenge for them to maximize their returns on the distance events than it will be for Scotlandville in the sprints and relays.

DIVISION I GIRLS TRACK MVP:

This comes as a no-brainer. Makeriah Harris is just a beast on the track and is slotted to win three individual events. This is not to mention her crucial role on the relay teams. In my mind, on a bad day, Harris still lands on the podium in all of her events, easily. With a talent like that, it's hard not to recognize her ability to dominate the sprint events. Between all of her events, it would not be out of the picture for Harris to have at least three gold medals at the end of the day.

DIVISION I GIRLS FIELD MVP:

What else could we expect from Destrehan's Marley Richard, showing up only when she needed to at the Last Chance Qualifier and recording the two best jumps in all of Division I for the season? She's slotted to win both of these events and it doesn't look like there are many individuals that can challenge her for this position. In a worst-case scenario, she still finishes on the podium for both of these events, however, we may have only seen the beginning of what she can do this season. Entering the scene late is always exciting because we have no way of knowing if this was an exemplary performance for her, or if it was just another day in the office. Either way, you do not want to take your eyes off her when the long and triple jump roll around.
