Shreve's Marquez Stevenson Commits to Texas Tech!

SHREVE'S MARQUEZ STEVENSON SPRINTS TOWARD A 400m STATE TITLE IN EARLY MAY!

After an official visit to Lubbock this weekend, one of-if not the-fastest high school athlete(s) in Louisiana has committed to Texas Tech University.

Captain Shreve's wide receiver Marquez Stevenson had a feeling when he flew out to Lubbock this weekend that he would be making a decision before leaving West Texas, and that's exactly what happened.

"I told the coaches before getting on the plane to come back home," Stevenson said.

Stevenson said it was the family atmosphere and energy of the coaching staff which made it an easy decision.

"It's like Captain Shreve as far as a family environment is concerned," Stevenson said.

One important aspect for Stevenson was the coaching staff's willingness to allow him to continue participating in track.

"I couldn't just drop track," Stevenson said.

On this weekend's official visit, the coaching staff went more into depth on how things will work inside the Texas Tech football program as well as academics.

"It wasn't just about football," Stevenson said. "They talked about the importance of school work, and making sure I get my degree."

And what about Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire?

"I like him," Stevenson said. "He is like another Coach Sepulvado."

With his commitment to Texas Tech behind him, Stevenson turns his attention to the AAU Junior Olympics, where last summer he ran the fastest 400 meter time (46.85) in the history of Northwest Louisiana, surpassing Mansfield's Jerry Wilson's 46.92.

With meets, camps, and visits this summer, Stevenson has had a busy schedule.

"It's been different," Stevenson said. "The coaches at Shreve give me the time I need to make sure I am getting my track work in. I feel better about this summer compared to last summer."

Once the AAU Junior Olympics is over, Stevenson will look forward to his final season of high school football.

"I'm ready to dominate," Stevenson said. "I know that I will be somebody to watch so I will have to live up to a higher standard and do better than I did last year."
