Sophie Martin of St. Joseph's Academy is one of the top distance talents in the state and has displayed that this past season in the 1600m and 3200m run. Martin's better performance comes from the mile. Her full mile time clocks in at 5:05 which is by far the fastest time in the state and one of the fastest in the nation. Martin's other top performance resides in the 3200m run. She comes in at 10:53 which just puts her outside the top 100 in the nation in the event. Martin has decided to continue to compete for Louisiana State University (LSU).
Callie Hardy of Episcopal is another top speed-based distance runner. Hardy brags a 5:18 in the 1600m which is one of the fastest times in the state. She follows up with an 800m performance of 2:21 this season. Prior to the 2021 outdoor track and field championships, Hardy is a two-time state champion in both track and cross country. Hardy will continue her athletic career with Louisiana State University (LSU).
ABBEY MARIE RATCLIFF
Abbey Marie Ratcliff of E.D. White demonstrates diverse talent from the 800m to the 3200m run. Ratcliff steps up to the 1600m with an impressive time of 5:14 and follows up with another impressive time from the 3200m run in 11:29. Abbey Marie also shows that she is a capable 800m runner with a time of 2:23. Ratcliff will continue to compete at the collegiate level for the University of Louisiana, Lafayette.
Joslyn Crosby of Parkway High School is without a doubt one of the top performers in the state. She has demonstrated her talent by not only running well in the pre-championship season, but also by qualifying for the state meet in the 800m and the 3200m. Her best performance is the 3200m run, which was completed in 11:32. This ranks her #4 in the state for this outdoor season. Crosby follows up with an 800m run in 2:26, as well as a 1600m run in 5:28 this season. Crosby will be continuing to compete in track and field for Howard University.
Anna Huffman of Mandeville is not a traditional distance runner. Her strong suits are the 400m and 800m run. Huffman is a consistent talent when it comes to the 800m which is by far no easy task. She has consistently run between 2:18 and 2:22 all season long and has been mostly undefeated this season. She follows up with some strong 400m talent by running 59 seconds for the quarter-mile. Huffman has not committed to any university to compete in track and field.
