Lions, Lady Lions Build Momentum Towards Outdoor Season at LSU NCAA Qualifier

BATON ROUGE – The Southeastern Louisiana men’s and women’s track and field teams had several impressive individual performances at the LSU NCAA Qualifier Friday evening at the Carl Maddox Field House.

The meet was designed to allow student-athletes to qualify for a spot in the NCAA National Indoor Championships. While the Lions and Lady Lions did not have a qualifier, Southeastern had several performances that point to good things ahead in the approaching outdoor season.

On the men’s side, Southland Conference Indoor Newcomer of the Year Adonson Shallow and teammate Faisal Muhammed finished 3-4 in the weight throw, both finishing just short of the NCAA Provisional distance. Shallow posted a throw of 19.13 meters, while Muhammad was credited with a throw of 18.64 meters.

Corey Billizone also had a positive showing for the Lions, posting a 14.93 meter leap in the triple jump. Babatunde Babalola and Billizone finished 1-2 in the high jump, with Babalola clearing 2.11 meters – just under the NCAA Provisional mark of 2.14 meters.

On the women’s side, Everlyne Matonyei finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.89. Roseann Bell was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 5.82 meters.

The Lions and Lady Lions will open the outdoor season on March 14, competing in the McNeese Invitational in Lake Charles.
