Men's Cross Country Seventh at Chili Pepper

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Against the most nationally ranked fields of competition this season, the LSU men’s cross country team posted a seventh place finish at the Chili Pepper Festival on Saturday at Argi Park. The Lady Tigers finished 30th among the 39-team field overall.

“This competition is always a tough one,” said LSU cross country Mark Elliott. “I think the guys ran extremely well and it’s a good showing for the regional. Women ran their best; we are still building strength and performance week by week. Overall we had a good performance today. ”

The Tigers finished the day with 248 points, while the Lady Tigers tallied 866 points.

No. 20 Texas A&M took first place with only 52 points in the men’s 10K course. No.27 Razorbacks finished second with 75 and Lamar University rounded out the top three with 120 points.

Texas Tech ranked No. 29 took the women’s meet title with 72 points. No. 10 Arkansas was second with 101 and No. 23 Southern Methodist placed third with 139 points.

Individually, senior Jacob Simmons highlighted LSU’s efforts, recording a 32nd place finish after completing the course in 30:32.42. Other Tigers who finished in the top-100 was Richard Chautin (54th 31:07.07), Andy Florek (55th 31:09.59) and Alan Sticker (87th 31:58.50).

Also scoring for the Tigers was Tim Landry (116th 32:41), Cullen Doody (129th 32:54.88) and Kyle Hecker (141st 33:12.02).

On the Lady Tiger’s side, senior Christina Porter again led the pack to the line in 22:51.44 over the 6K course. Freshmen Laura Carleton, Jenna Henssler and Amber Abbott followed with times of 24:01.01, 24:37.09 and 25:16.09 respectively. Another Lady Tiger Jessica Deutsch scored with a time of 25:25.14.

Next up for LSU’s cross country teams will be the SEC Championships, November 3 at Mississippi State.
