GRAMBLING TIGERS PARTICIPATE IN LSU TIGER RELAYS

The Grambling State men’s track team traveled to Baton Rouge, La. this past weekend to participate in the 2008 LSU Tiger Relays at Bernie Moore Stadium.  Grambling State had a productive weekend on the track as the men captured 23 top 10 finishes and three top three finishes in the relay events.
            In the men’s individual events, Edmund Joseph captured third in the finals of the 110-meter hurdles with a run of 14.36 while sprinter Keantwon Gray also finished third with a time of 10.8 in the 100-meter dash.  Several events later, Joseph advanced to the finals of the 400-meter hurdles event and captured seventh after running 56.89.
            The foursome of Paul Irvin, Prinzton Carey, Abdi Chepkwony and Brian Ramos finished 4-5-7-8 in the 5,000-meter run.  Ramos returned to the track several events later and captured first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and was followed by Chepkwony’s and Carey’s second and fourth place finishes.  Dion Blanton also had a strong meet as he finished sixth in the section two finals of the 1,500-meter run.
            During the field events, Kenneth Gerard, Jr. captured a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 132-09.  Christopher Williams also participated in the event and placed 10th after a throw of 106-04. 
Darius Lavalais was the top finisher for GSU in the high jump as he finished ninth with a jump of 6-02.75.  In the flight one long jump finals, Travis Joseph finished second (21-09) while teammate Thadius Batiste ranked ninth after a jump of 19-10.75. 
            Gionreicho Lynch was GSU’s top performer in the shot put as he finished seventh (35-08) in the flight one finals and third in the flight one finals of the javelin throw with a throw of 153-01.
Christopher Williams participated in the flight two finals of the shot put and placed ninth after a throw of 47-00.25.  Williams continued his busy day in the discus and racked up a fourth place finish (134-02) while Batiste and Joseph finished sixth and seventh in the flight one and two finals of the triple jump, respectively.
            In the relays, the men’s “A” team captured third in the 4x100 and 4x800 events with times of 41.43 and 8:05.89, respectively.  The “A” team also participated in the distance medley relay and captured third (11:14.42).
