ULM Track Enjoys another Strong Outing

ARLINGTON, Texas --- Despite inclement weather the ULM track and field team enjoyed another strong outing over the weekend, posting top 10 finishes and an individual championship by junior Heather Davis in the high jump at the Bobby Lane Invitational in Arlington, Texas.

Davis posted a jump of 1.72 meters to best a competitive field that included 22 individuals.

Junior Seth Ilaoa ended the day as the Warhawks top male field performer by posting top five finishes in the hammer throw (third with a throw of 44.60 meters), discus throw (fifth with a throw of 45.16 meters) and shot put (second with a throw of 15.39 meters). Ilaoa finished the day with three of the Warhawks 10 Top 5 finishes.

Davis was joined by junior Destiny Montemayor (third in hammer throw) and junior Sadrina Shaw (fifth in 100 meter hurdles) on the women's side in top five finishes. Freshman Jeffery Kent (second in the javelin), freshman Moses Chelimo (third in 3000 meter steeplechase), junior Mychal Word (fifth in 400 meter dash), junior Andrew Opata (fourth in 800 meter run) and the 4x400 meter relay team (third) also placed in the top five on the men's side.

"I didn't think it was that good of a weekend for us," ULM head coach J.D. Malone said. "The weather definitely had an impact on our performances. I expect us to do much better at the Texas Relays."

ULM will compete in the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas starting on Wednesday, April 2. The event runs through Saturday, April 5.
