SLU THROWERS LEAD THE WAY FOR LIONS AT GOLDEN EAGLE CLASSIC

HATTIESBURG, MISS. - Sophomore Lady Lions jumper Aqueelah El-Amin set a new school record in the women\'s pole vault, surpassing a mark she had previously tied and senior Lions thrower Teremine White added in some impressive throws in the discus to highlight the Lions\' and Lady Lions\' track and field teams\' trip to Hattiesburg for the Golden Eagle Classic.

\"This was another small meet where our goal was to find a good learning opportunity where we have a chance to do a little more coaching and fine tuning with our student-athletes,\" Southeastern head track and field coach Sean Brady said. \"We got to see how we match up against some upper-level Conference USA and Sun Belt schools and I think we stacked up well. This is another step in the process of preparing to peak in April and May, and I like the direction we\'re heading.\"

El-Amin impressed the crowd with a vault of 3.85m (12-07.50). The vault was enough to claim first place, surpass the NCAA Regional Qualifying mark, and best the previous school record of 11-5.75 set in 2005 by former Lady Lion Erica Cronin and tied by El-Amin in 2007, by more than a foot.

On the men\'s side, senior thrower Teremine White notched a pair of top-two performances, claiming second place in the shot put and first in the discus. White started his day by throwing 16.71m (54-10.00) in the shot put to claim second. Next the veteran thrower launched a toss of 56.09m (184-00) to claim first in the discus.

White was not alone however, as other Lion throwers posted outstanding marks in the discus. Senior Dwight Womack claimed third (49.13m 161-02ft) and junior Kyle Francis took fourth (47.68m 156-05ft). Womack would also go on to claim first in the hammer throw with a toss of 51.19m (167-11).

The Lions and Lady Lions will return to action when they head to Baton Rouge for the prestigious Tiger Relays March 28-29.
