2008 Track & Field Signee’s 

Head Coach Steve Silvey and his new coaching staff would like to announce it’s first group of track and field signee’s.  “We feel that this recruiting class will be the foundation to rebuilding the championship tradition at UL. We hope that this group of athletes will allow us to challenge for a crown in 2010 at the University of Louisiana” States Coach Silvey.   

SIERRA CHAMBERS-SPRINTS Jake Yates High School, Houston, Texas

5'7 - 130lbs / Personal Bests   100 Meters  11.7   200 Meters 24.5   400 Meters 58.5

High School Relay Team was 3rd in 4X200 Meter Relay at the Texas 5A State Track Meet. 2007 was Sierra’s first year of running track and field and has a tremendous upside for the college level. An excellent basketball player. 

DANIELLE BROCK-SPRINTS/JUMPS Westlake H. S. -Waldorf, Maryland Competed at Harker Heights High School in Killeen, Texas during Junior and sophomore years of high school. 5-5-126 lbs / PERSONAL BESTS: 200 Meters 23.8, 400 Meters – 55.5 Long Jump – 19’2.5 Triple Jump – 38’2.  Principal's Honor Roll  & A-B Honor Roll Sophomore Year - 3 Gold Medals at the Texas 3A State Track Meet - 400, Long Jump, Triple Jump and was also 2nd place in the 200 meters. Junior Year -3rd Place in 3-A Texas State meet in the 400 meters and the Long Jump. 

DEANNA ALFRED – SPRINTS Barbe High School - Lake Charles, LA

5-8  120 lbs  PERSONAL BESTS:  100 Meters 12.11, 200 Meters 24.96

Louisiana 5-A State 200 Meter Champion and state runner-up at 100 meters.  Was also on the winning 4 x200 Relay and 4 x 400 relays at the state meet 2007. Class 5A Girls Outstanding Athlete - MVP at Track State Championships,  An Active member of the Key Club a community service organization. National Honor Society 

ALLANTE BERGERON-HURDLES Westbury High School – Houston, TX

5-5 123 lbs  PERSONAL BESTS: 400 METERS - 57.4, 300 HURDLES 45.1, 300 Hurdles - 45.1 400 Hurdles - 1:01.00 (One of the top 12 marks in the USA for a high school junior.  National Honor Society, Business Professionals of America, Who's Who Among High School Students 3 Year Team Captain in Cross Country, 2 Year Team Captain in Track and Field  AAU Junior Olympics Qualifier - 400 Hurdles, State Qualifier in the 4X400 Meter Relay. 
 

AMBER LAURANT –POLE VAULT  Vandebilt Catholic H. S. Houma, LA

PERSONAL BEST:  Pole Vault 11-6    5’7” 118 pounds Finished 3rd place in the 2007 Louisiana State 4-A track meet. 
 

BRANDON TUCKER-HURDLES-Lewisville H.S. Lewisville, Texas

PERSONAL BESTS: 110 Hurdles 13.9(Hand) 14.20 (electronic) 300 meter hurdles

37.90. Will have an east transition to the college 42 inch high hurdles with his 6’-2” 180 pound frame. Texas 5-A Regional Champion in the 300 meter Hurdles, and Texas 5-A Regional Runner-up in the 110 hurdles. Placed in both the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles at the Texas 5-A State Championships. Was one of only 2 junior hurdlers to make the 5-A State meet finals. 

MARCUS ROSENENDOLL-JUMPS Mansfield Summit H.S Arlington, TX PERSONAL BEST: High Jump 6-10”  A great high jump prospect at 6’2” 170 lbs. Texas 5-A Texas Regional Championship Runner-up. State Qualifier for high Jump

A-B Honor Student.  

NATE SOWELS-SPRINTS/HURDLES Pinkston High School, Dallas, Texas

PERSONAL BESTS: 400 Meters 47.95, 300 meter hurdles 37.80, 800 meters 1:55.60

6-1 175lbs.  A great athletes that will be able to excel in several events at the college level. 2007 Texas-4-A State Champion at 400 meters. Was an excellent high school cornerback with 4.45 speed. 

MICHAEL CARTER, JR. -THROWS Red Oak High School, Dallas, Texas

6-1  300lbs.  PERSONAL BESTS: 61-5 in Shot Put and 165’0 in Discus.  Finished  3rd place in the 2007 Texas State 4-A Track Championships in the Shot Put. Father, Michael Carter Sr. was the 1984 Olympic Silver Medallist and is currently the National high school record holder at 81 feet three inches and won three super bowl rings with the San Francisco 49ers as an All-Pro nose guard. Sister Michelle was the 2008 NCAA shot put Champion at the University of Texas. Sister, D’Andra Carter is a NCAA All-American Discus thrower at Texas Tech University. 

TRAVIS JOHNSON-HURDLES Aldine High School, Houston, Texas

6’3” 173 lbs.  PERSONAL BESTS: 110 hurdles 14.7 and 300 meter hurdles 38.5

4 x 400 Relay 49.6 (Split) An Excellent College prospect who will have no trouble running the taller 42 inch college hurdles. A real “sleeper” that should have a great 2008 season.  

TYLER GUIDRY-THROWS  South Lafourche High School, Galliano, LA

PERSONAL BESTS: Shot Put 57-3, Discus 148-0 and Javelin 163-0.  6’3” 230 lbs.  Finished 2nd place in the Shot Put at the Louisiana 5-A State Championships and also finished 6th place in the Discus at the state meet. Did not throw the javelin during his junior season due to a football injury. A real “sleeper” in the javelin for the 2008 season! 
 
 

WAYNE JACOBS-SPRINTS- O.P. Walker High School New Orleans, LA

PERSONAL BESTS: 100 Meter 10.43 and 200 meters 21.26.  5’-7” 165 pounds Finished second in the Louisiana 5-A State Championships in the 200 meters.  Also, finished third place in the 100 meters at the Louisiana 5-A State meet.  
 

BRAD STOUFFIET- MULTI-EVENTS  South Terrebonne H.S. Bourg, LA

PERSONAL BESTS: Pole Vault 14’6”. 5’11”  161 pounds. Will be converted to an decathlete for the UL program.  A very good “all-around” athlete that should help fill a void.
