RELAY SQUADS LEAD LIONS AT BAYOU BENGAL INVITATIONAL

BATON ROUGE - A pair of first place finishes in the men\'s 4x400 m relay and the men\'s distance medley were the highlights of Southeastern track\'s latest trip to Baton Rouge for the Bayou Bengal Invitational. The men\'s 4x400 m relay squad turned in a time of 3:19.93, posting a new school indoor record. Meanwhile, the men\'s distance medley team dominated the field, claiming first place with a time of 10:18.42, 40 seconds ahead of second place UL-Monroe.

The Southeastern \'A\' 4x400 relay team\'s record time beat second-place Hinds Community College by nearly three seconds, and the distance squad nearly joined the 4x400 team, but finished 1.5 seconds from breaking the school\'s indoor record.

\"All-in-all it wasn\'t our best meet as a team, but our relay teams did a great job by giving us some very strong performances,\" Southeastern track coach Sean Brady said. \"Individual performances can really help out your cause at meets like this, so it was good to see our relay teams come through for us like that.\"

Distance medley runners Henry Rop and Kalphys Kemboi each turned in solid individual performances while leading the medley team to first place. Kemboi finished second in the 1 mile run with a time of 4:22.84, and Rop took runner-up honors in the 3000 m run with a time of 8:27.85.

On the women\'s side, Colleena Collins and Kim Carriere once again dominated the throws. Carriere claimed fourth place in the shot put with a mark of 12.74m (41-09.75 ft) and third in the weight throw with a toss of 16.59m (54-05.25 ft). Collins was right behind her teammate in the weight throw with a fourth-place mark of 16.41m (53-10.25 ft).

The Southeastern track squads will return to action Feb. 22-23 when they head to Houston for the Southland Conference Indoor Championships.
