Cross Country Wraps Up Season at 2007 Championship

LOGAN, Utah -- Louisiana Tech’s cross country squads competed Saturday morning in the 2007 WAC Championships with the men placing seventh while the women placed ninth.

“Well, it’s only ten weeks away from track season,” Tech head coach Gary Stanley said. “We knew we were bringing a lot of inexperience, and we hoped our young guys learned some things today. The altitude certainly played a factor, but we have promise for next year.”

Tech junior Jace Benoit was the first Bulldog to cross the line with a time of 25:15.77 for a time of 25th place. Junior Cory Denstel ran 25:30.06 for 31st place, while the three freshmen in Kyle Davis, David Monroe and Steven Cortez placed 45th-47th with times of 26:27.80, 26:29.15 and 26:32.17, respectively.

For the women, freshman Morgan Owen crossed the line at 21:54.91 for 67th place, while freshmen Lauren Gilbert, Kristen Loy and Whitney Smith all followed with times of 22:36.89, 25:16.08 and 25:24.47, respectively.
