ULL Cross Country Opens Season at Home

  LAFAYETTE- Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns men’s and women’s cross country teams kicked off the 2007 season at the Ragin’ Cajuns Invitational on Friday. Both teams finished second at the meet, which was held at Acadiana Park. The men’s team had a combined time of 2:01:04.66 and collected 35 points to finish second behind Grambling State, who won the meet with 22 total points and a combined time of 1:58:36.69.  The UL women took second place with 40 points and a combined time of 1:46:58.32. Nicholls State took first with a time of 1:44:39.12 and 28 points, and Grambling finished third with 56 points and a time of 1:49:22.45. UL’s Cory Richard was the top finisher for the men taking eighth place and earning three points with his time of 23:42.58. Richard was followed by Reese Lee who finished 10th with a time of 23:51.38, earning five points. Joby Gisclair finished 11th with a time of 23:57.40 and six points, and Geoffrey Goudeau’s time of 24:12.54 was good enough for a 14th place finish and nine points. Peter Stelly finished 19th, Nathan Cormier finished 20th and Micah Rabalais finished 21st. Casey Brown placed third for the women’s team. Brown finished with a time of 20:38.50 and three points. Callie Picou finished fifth with a time of 20:47.33 and five points. Jasmine Collins finished with a time of 21:30.90 and nine points to place ninth. Suzanne Boudreaux placed 11th, and Tiffany Saltzman finished 12th. Ashley Faulk, Lindsey Mertens, Paula Parker, Stephanie Harris, Jenna Picou and Courtney Cobb also competed for the Cajuns. The Cajuns men’s and women’s teams will next compete at the Louisiana Tech Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 15.
