O'Callaghan and Willcox lead Privateers at Southland Championships

Men's 8K Results | Women's 6K Results

Natchitoches, La. – Both New Orleans Privateers cross country programs completed their second season in the Southland Conference on Monday morning at the Southland Championships on the campus of Northwestern State.

Led by a 61st place finish by Clayton O'Callaghan the Privateers men's squad finished in 12th place with 344 points.

Clayton finished his 8K with a personal record time of 26:45.4, shaving just over two minutes and seven seconds off of his time in last year's Southland Championships and just over 54 seconds off his time at this year's Watson Ford Invitational.

Running together as a team four of the six men's runners finished between 61st (O'Callaghan) and 73rd (Edmund Pine) and were separated by just 43 seconds.

The Privateers women were paced by Callie Willcox. The sophomore finished the women's 6K with a time of 23:50.2 good for 60th overall. Just behind her was junior Letizia Titon with a time of 24:40.7, putting her in 72nd place.

Both the men's and women's team championships were won by Lamar. The league championships were the 13th time for Lamar's men's program to win, and the fifth time overall for the women. One of the most powerful cross country programs in the region, the Lamar men have now won 11 of the last 12 Southland Championships, while the women have won back-to-back league titles.

A pair of Lamar student-athletes also set new individual records during the event, with senior Sam Stabler breaking the men's 8K record previously set in 2012, and freshman Minttu Hukka shattering the previous women's 5K record, which had been set in 1994.
