WOMEN'S RESULTS
NATCHITOCHES – Sophomore runner
Oliver James led the McNeese Cowboys at Monday morning's Southland Conference Cross Country Championships at Northwestern State with a ninth place finish to help lead the Cowboys to a team third place in the overall standings.

James ran the 8-kilometer race in 24:22.9 and earned All-SLC Second Team honors by finishing in the top 10.

On the women's side, the Cowgirls placed fourth overall for their highest finish since placing third in 2010.
Â
Newcomers
Gemma Bridge and
Katja Woelfl led the Cowgirls by placing 14
th and 15
th respectively. Bridge clocked a 21:31.6 in the 6-kilometer race while Woelfl was close behind at 21:33.8.

"I'm very proud of the way both teams competed today," said head coach
Brendon Gilroy. "The men had a little bit more work to do towards the second half of their race. Kind of left them a little bit more work to do than they should've. But it's still a third place.

"Awesome job for Oliver (James) to earn all-conference honors," said Gilroy. "He improved from 27 minutes last year to finish at 24 minutes this year."

Enock Bor placed 12
th with a time of 24:38.8 and
Ryan Holroyd was 17
th at 24:51.3 to give McNeese three top 20 finishers.Â
Nathan Jones ran a time of 25:14.0 to place 29
th,
Nicholas Kiprono in 32

nd place with a time of 25:37.2,
Brock Moreaux 50
th at 25:57.3, and
Fisher Hamilton 52

The Cowgirls had runners finish 30-32 with
Amity Delaney in 30
th with a time of 22:24.9,
Alison Smegal in 31

Corissa Storms in 32
nd place with a 22:47.6. Also,
Angelina Covington scored 52 points with a time of 23:31.7, Sarah Booth in 60 points at 24:00.1, and
Rhian Dawes finishing 76
th at 25:03.2.

"The women were aggressive," said Gilroy. "It's been a while since we've had a shot to get into the top three, but I'm real proud of them for the fourth place finish. Gemma (Bridge) and Katja (Woelfl) did an outstanding job to finish in the top 15.

Lamar won both the men and women team championships and also individual titles as Sam Stabler took gold on the men's side with a time of 23:29.1 while Minttu Hukka won the women's gold with a time of 20:06.6.

Next up for McNeese will be the NCAA South Central Regionals to be held in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
