Ty Sevin will join U.S. Olympic committee as pole vault coach; Brendon Gilroy named McNeese interim head coach

McNeese State track and field coach Ty Sevin has accepted the position of pole vault coach with the U. S. Olympic Committee at the U. S. Olympic training site in Chula Vista, CA.
The appointment is effective August 1.
McNeese interim athletic director Tommy McClelland said that assistant coach Brendon Gilroy has been named the school's interim head track coach to replace Sevin for the time being.
"I am really excited about this," Sevin said of his new position. "I will be coaching and working with the top pole vaulters in the world. I am very thankful of the opportunity that I had here. I want to thank Coach Watkins (Sonny) for giving me the chance to be the head coach here and Tommy (McClelland) for continuing to believe in what we were doing."
Sevin will now be working with three of the top 10 vaulters in the world in defending Olympic gold medal winner Tim Mack, silver medal winner Toby Stevenson and former McNeese coach and US champion Russ Buller.
During his three seasons at McNeese, Sevin produced the NCAA indoor pole vault champion in Brad Gebauer, an American junior champion and record holder in javelin thrower Chris Hill and numerous conference champions and NCAA championship participants.
McClelland said of Sevin's appointment, "This is quite an honor for Ty. He will now be on the world stage and we are very proud of him and wish him the best. "
