Meet ResultsLAKE CHARLES – Freshmen Josh Wilkins and
Erin Wrozek were Northwestern State's top runners Saturday at the ASICS-McNeese State Stampede cross country races.
For the third straight meet, Wilkins was NSU's highest finisher, taking 10
th in a field of 74 by running 19:56 over four miles at Enos Derbonne Park.
In the women's 5,000 meter race, Wrozek topped the Lady Demons' scorecard for the first time in her career with a 22nd place 18:52.6 time, heading three other NSU runners in the top 30.
Freshman
Ashley Adams scored 27
th in 19:04.4 and freshman
Jacqueline Rushford ran 29th
th in 19:10 for the Lady Demons, whose scoring was completed by freshmen twins
Erin Sitarz (36
th, 19:40.9) and
Emily Sitarz (37
th, 20:05). Freshman
Annie Fillers was in the 38
th scoring position in 20:40.7.
LSU won the women's team competition with 34 points, ahead of Tulane (54), Louisiana-Lafayette (68), McNeese (80), Southeastern Louisiana (146), NSU (151), Southern (194) and Nicholls, who did not score.
In the men's race, the Demons' second scorer was freshman Guy Butts, 31
st in 21:43.6. Junior
Jeremy Elliott was next for NSU (34
th, 22:01.7), followed on the scorecard by freshman
Hunter Warmack (37
th, 22:09.4) and sophomore
Lucas Moncla (38
th, 22:16.4). Also finishing for the Demons: sophomore
Skylor Reese (39
th, 22:38.4) and freshman
Tyler Corwin (42
nd, 24:37.4).
The men's team standings were topped by meet host McNeese (31), with ULL second (66), followed by LSU (73), Tulane (83), Southeastern (146), Northwestern (150) and Southern (225) also posting scores, and Nicholls failing to finish five runners.
The Pre-Conference Meet on Monday, Oct. 6 at the Demon Hills Golf Course is the next action for the NSU cross country teams, who host the Southland Conference Championships on the same course Nov. 3.
