Salute to Seniors: Christian Paz- John Curtis Christian School

What was your most memorable race/moment?

My most memorable moment was the end of the St. Thomas Aquinas Rollette Invitational race when I thought I had no more in me at the end but I pushed through the pain and I hit my fastest time of the year, 16:09.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

My biggest competition was myself. I was the only one standing in my way of my goals. It was a battle in my mind every single race in the four years I ran at Curtis.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment was our team wining the first cross country state championship ever at my school. There was no better feeling.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I would have gone back to before my 10th grade year and would've tried and cared about running more than I did.  Before that time I was just going through the motions each day at practice.

What was the most difficult thing you had to overcome?

I had to overcome leading a team. I knew nothing about leading since there weren't many seniors on the team when I was younger. I was usually quiet and shy but someone had to be the leader, even though I didn't know what it meant to do so.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss my teammates (family) the most. We fought through pain and letdowns each season together. I spent so much time with them at practice, school, and church and we had a lot of memories.

What advice would you give to younger athletes?

The advice I would give to younger athletes is two things: Do not give up, even when you feel like your training isn't getting you to where you want to be, and then also be all in mentally and physically with your teammates and your coaches on achieving the goals of the team.

What influence has you coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

My coach has given me a view of life that no one has ever shown me. He has shown me dedication, hardwork, leadership, character, and integrity. My coach always had higher expectations and pushed me through workouts and races and in the process made me a better athlete. He knew the type of workouts we needed to do to get better and didn't let us back off.

What are your college plans?

My college plan is to attend Mississippi College this coming year and run on their cross country and track team.
