Frisco, Tx. – The Southeastern Louisiana track and field teams received well-deserved recognition on Thursday as head coach
Sean Brady and twelve of his student-athletes were honored by the Southland Conference.
Brady was named the 2014 Men's Outdoor Coach of the Year, after being named Indoor Coach of the Year in March. This is Brady's first outdoor honor since 2009, coming off of the one-point victory over Stephen F. Austin (157-156). Sam Houston State head coach Dave Self was named women's coach of the year. Brady and Self's squads both won the indoor track and field championships in Birmingham earlier this year.
Also earning individual honors was junior
Brett Olsen, who was named the Men's Newcomer of the Year. Olsen was the third-highest scorer after placing second in both the discus (174-8) and shot put (54-6). Olsen, a native of Ridgecrest, Calif. (Burrough H.S.), also finished third in the hammer throw with a heave of 195 feet. He is the first Lion to receive the award since it was introduced in 2006.
A total of 12 athletes were named to the All-Southland Conference teams after competing in the 2014 championships in Conway, Arkansas. The top-three finishers in each event earned honors, and were named to their respective teams.
