NEW ORLEANS - Perfect weather and a return to the Uptown campus brought out over 100 participants to the sixth annual Tulane Athletics 5K on Saturday, and over $10,000 was raised for the Tulane Athletics Fund.

A variety of local runners, along with a slew of Tulane athletics staff and student-athletes, lined up in front of the up-and-coming Yulman Stadium before taking off for the 3.1-mile run that wound in and out of Tulane's campus. Around 100 runners took part in the actual race that returned to campus after being held at City Park last year, while many more sponsored runners and donated to the Tulane Athletics Fund.

"We are really excited to bring this event back to the Tulane campus, and we hope by doing so, we will be able to attract a lot more runners to the event," said Tulane track and field director Eric Peterson. "We got lucky today with a beautiful day of weather, and I think it turned out to be a really good event."

When it was all said and done, Tulane freshman runner Moses Aloiloi - who is redshirting this season for the track and field and cross country seasons - won the event, blowing by the competition and finishing in a time of 15:08. Pat Gavin finished second with a time of 15:46, and former track and field student-athlete Max Miller placed third in a time of 16:15.

"We really wanted to give people the opportunity to run with our athletes," added Peterson. "We've used this as a training run for our athletes, so this was almost like a training run for Moses."

Following the race, the participants were treated to fish tacos and beverages alongside Greer Field at Turchin Stadium, before many were given tours of Yulman Stadium.

The money raised on Saturday, and during the months leading up to the event, will be used to support Tulane student-athletes in their athletic, academic and community pursuits.
