Ragin' Cajuns with 13 first-place performances in eight-team event

NATCHITOCHES – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team turned in 13 first-place performances and made a strong statement in its final regular-season tuneup at the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational on Saturday at the Walter P. Ledet Track Complex.
The Cajuns added eight second-place finishes in the eight-team meet that served as the final regular-season event prior to the Sun Belt Conference Championships scheduled for May 9-11 in San Marcos, Texas.
On the women's side, the Ragin' Cajuns received first-place performances from Stacy Imagbe (100-meter dash), Danielle Castaldi (1,500-meter run), Anna Katherine Devitt (5,000-meter run), Claire Hodges (3,000-meter steeplechase), Lindsey Harmon (high jump), Tarvia Conway (triple jump) and the 4x400-meter relay team.
Matt Rice (800-meter run), Scott Brewster (1,500-meter run), Corbett Ourso (5,000-meter run), Dionte Heath (high jump), Michael Vani (pole vault) and Albert Fournette (shot put) claimed first-place finishes on the men's side.
"We couldn't ask for anything better than the performance that we had today," head coach Lon Badeaux said. "It was a perfect ending to the regular-season and we're looking forward to getting ready for the Sun Belt Conference Championships."
Castaldi earned her first individual title of the season in the 1,500 meters after posting a personal-best time of 4 minutes, 45.49 seconds. Imagbe clocked a season-best 11.82 in the 100-meters with Cajuns turning in a season-best performance in the 4x400-meter relay at 3:50.56. Devitt (18:45.07), Hodges (11:49.29), Harmon (5-7) and Conway (41-4.50) earned victories in their respective events.
"We took a big step forward today as a team," Badeaux said. "Our kids in the jumps did really well. It was tough going around the track with the wind today, but Matt Rice and Danielle Castaldi keep winning races and we had some kids step up with some big performances."
On the men's side, Rice claimed his second first-place finish of the season in the 800 after clocking a time of 1:56.01. Brewster earned his first individual title after posting a time of 4:02.37 in the 1,500 with Ourso claiming the 5,000 in 16:21.31. Heath claimed the men's high jump with a season-best mark of 6 feet, 9.75 inches with Vani earning his fourth individual title of the season in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 16-8.
Fournette, who threw a season-high 63-0 last week at the LSU Alumni Gold, followed with a season-best 63-4.75 to claim his sixth individual title of the season.
