ULM Excels at Skecher’s Carl Knight Invitational

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The ULM track & field program turned in a strong showing on Friday and Saturday at the Skecher’s Carl Knight Invitational as the men finished third and the women took eighth of 14 schools hosted by Stephen F. Austin at Homer Bryce Stadium.

 

Senior Martin Solomon had a big outing as he took second in the 400m hurdles (53.24) and third in the 110m hurdles (14.88). Sophomore Rondell Coleman took fourth in the 400m hurdles with a personal-record of 54.13 while junior Jamel Sams took sixth at 54.51.

 

On the women’s side, junior Teona Glave was crowned champion of the 800m with a season-best time of 2:15.49. She is the current school record-holder in the event indoors.

 

Back on the men’s track, sophomore Nigel Cribbs shined in the 400m as his season-best score of 48.39 was good for second-place.

 

In the 100m, freshman Jeremy Harden etched a third-place time of 10.75, a collegiate-best for him. In the 200m, sophomore Mark Demus crossed the finish line in 21.73, a season-best and top-five time.

 

Freshman Vinnie Van Puyvelde led the way for ULM in the 800m with a personal-record of 1:56.94. A big personal-record came from freshman Jonathan Jeffcoat in the 5000m as his time of 16:04.42 broke his previous best of 16.35.99 set at the 2014 Indoor Sun Belt Championships.

 

A pair of fourth-place finishes headlined ULM’s outing in throws as freshman Jevaughn Shaw threw a 49.90 in the discus while sophomore Joey Womack tossed a personal-record of 59.50m in the javelin.

 

The Warhawks closed it out with a second-place time of 3:13.23 in the 4x400m relay. It was run by Cribbs, Demus, freshman Andre Phillips and sophomore Andrew Tate.

 

Freshman Mi’Ca Lowe highlighted the women’s throws with a personal-record and second-place finish in the javelin of 44.05m. Junior Megan Caillouet also posted a personal-record in the event with a top-five hurl of 39.35m.

 

In sprints, sophomore Ke’Andrea Wilson tallied a personal-record and seventh-place time of 24.93 in the 200m. She also registered a season-best with another seventh-place score in the 100m at 12.08.

 

ULM will be back at it next Saturday when it travels to Lake Charles, La., for the McNeese Springtime Challenge.
