March 14, 2014

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Louisiana Tech sprinter Trey Hadnot ran 20.78 to win his heat but fell just short of advancing to the finals as he finished ninth in the 200m at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday evening in Albuquerque, N.M.

At the NCAA Indoor Championships, the top eight times advance to the finals regardless of finish in the individual semifinal round heats. Hadnot fell just short of advancing, missing the finals by one-hundredth (0.01) of a second.

The Ruston, La. native’s time of 20.78 ranks second in school history behind only his school record time of 20.48 that he ran at last year’s NCAA Indoor Championships to finish third.

Hadnot qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships after setting a new league record in the 200m at the C-USA Indoor Championships, running 20.81 to claim gold. He would win a second gold medal at the conference meet as the anchor leg on the Bulldogs’ 4x400m relay.

This completes the indoor season for Louisiana Tech’s track and field team. The program now turns its attention to the outdoor season which opens with the Louisiana Tech-hosted Jim Mize Invitational on March 22 at the Jim Mize Track & Field Facility on the Louisiana Tech campus in Ruston, La.
