Mary Kate Hays leads WXC to Fifth Place Finish at Demon Invitational

 

NATCHITOCHES, La. - Mary Kate Hays recorded her third consecutive top-five finish as she led the Louisiana Tech women’s cross country team to a fifth place finish Saturday morning at the Demon Invitational.

Hays paced the team finishing the 5K course in 20:31. Hays has now recorded a top five finish in every event this season.

“A lot of hard work over the summer has enabled Mary Kate to have a successful senior season,” said Head Coach Gary Stanley.

Finishing just after Hays was newcomer Jayde Hughes and Alexis Young who finished 17th and 18th with times of 22:43 and 22:55, respectively. Wrapping up the scoring for Tech were Laticia Washington who placed 38th with a time of 27:05 and Laquanda James who finished 44th with a time of 28:28.

The women’s cross country team’s next action will come when the team travels to Denton, Texas for the Conference USA Championships on Nov. 2.
