McNeese cross country to host Cowboy Stampede on Saturday

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese's cross country teams will be back in action on Saturday when they host the annual Cowboy Stampede 5k race at the Enos Derbonne Sports Complex.

In addition to the college men's and women's races, there will also be a 5k fun run for all runners followed by a boys and girls high school, middle school and elementary races.

"It's great to be back running on a familiar course," said head coach Brendon Gilroy.  "We've got a bunch of good regional teams coming in for the college race and a lot of state high schools as well."

The fun run will begin at 8 a.m. followed by the women's college 5k at 8:45 and the men's race at 9:15.  The boys and girls high school races will follow at 9:45 and 10:15 and the middle school races at 10:45 and 11:15 followed by an 11:45 start for elementary kids.

Teams entered include men's and women's squads from Central Arkansas, LSU, Nicholls State, Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern, Southern of New Orleans, Tulane, Louisiana-Lafayette and the men's team from Louisiana Tech.

Both squads were off from action last week but the prior week, the two had good showings at the Rice Intercollegiate with the men taking home a team fifth place while the women placed eighth.

Alex Bruce-Littlewood took home the individual championship with a time of 16:44 in the 5,500-meter race while on the women's side, Amy Talbot was the highest finisher for the Cowgirls with a 13th place finish and a time of 15:37 in the 4,220-meter run.
