LIONS ROAR PAST FIELD TO CLAIM SOUTHERN MISS INVITE

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southeastern's Shane Rayners and Sean Allerton each turned in top-five finishes and the Lions cruised to their second win of the season as they claimed first-place at the 26th annual Southern Miss Invitational on Friday at Tatum Park.


Southeastern, which claimed the McNeese State Invitational on Tuesday, scored 27 points to finish ahead of Jackson State, Mississippi Valley State and Alcorn State in the seven-team field.


Rayners, a transfer from Western Kentucky, finished second overall for the Lions behind Vincent Tanui who ran unattached. Rayners completed the four-mile course in 20:46.16, 34 seconds ahead of the next finisher.


Allerton, from New Orleans, crossed the finish line in fourth-place (21:22.70) with Kurt Scoby (21:54.05) placing eighth, Ray Rodriguez 10th (22:15.77), and Rosendo Vallejos 14th (22:39.57). Alex Aschenbrenner finished 19th overall for the Lions (23:12.29) while Zach Dufrene (23:32.74) was 22nd and Kyle Golden (23:51.54) was 25th.
