Salute to Seniors: Josh Showalter (Loudoun County) MileSplit Staff Jul 06, 2012

 

Josh Showalter is a graduated senior from Loudoun County High School in Leesburg, Virginia. Showalter has been a key contributor for the Loudoun County cross country team which has placed third in 2010 and fourth in 2011 at the state championships in Group AA. Individually, the Christopher Newport University bound Showalter put together a strong outdoor campaign including a 9:33 3200 PR at Southern Track Classic and winning the Dulles District 3200 title.

Robert Richard-Snipes is a graduated senior from Maury High School in Norfolk, Virginia. Richard-Snipes was Maury's lone participant in this past June's AAA State Championships which he broke 50 seconds for only the second time in the open 400 meters and matched his personal best of 6'4" in the high jump. Richard-Snipes will compete next at the University of New Hampshire.

Corey Dabney is a graduated senior from Colonial Forge High School in Stafford, Virginia. After not running for several seasons between his freshmen and junior year, Dabney developed late in his senior year as shown by winning the Commonwealth District 3200 meter outdoor title and being a key member of Colonial Forge's All-State 4x800 relay teams.

Brent Swiney is a graduated senior from John S. Battle High School in Bristol, Virginia. Swiney really came on strong in outdoor track season of his senior year to run personal bests of 4:24 for 1600 meters and 9:33 for 3200 meters to become a Group A state champion in the 3200.

Brianna Krumholz is a graduated senior from Forest Park High School in Woodbridge, VA. Krumholz starred in events from 400 meters to 5000 meters for the Bruins in track and cross country and was a Northwest Region runner-up indoors twice at 500 meters as a junior and senior (Group AAA All-State 4th place as a junior as well). She leaves high school with personal best times of 58.34 for 400, 1:16.99 for 500, and 2:16 for 800 meters as she heads off to run collegiately at Virginia Commonwealth University in the fall.

Will Greenwood is a graduating senior from Lake Braddock in Burke, Virginia. A distance runner for the Bruins, he was a member of two state qualifying cross country teams as a sophomore and junior and became an All-District performer in cross country and indoor track as a senior.

Ross Anderson is a graduating senior distance runner from Maggie Walker Governor's School in Richmond, VA. A knee injury to start his senior year set him back from his full potential after entering 12th grade with personal bests of 4:37 for 1600 meters and 16:52 for 5K.

Henri Thomas is a graduating senior from Western Branch High School in Chesapeake, Virginia. Thomas, a hurdler and jumper for Western Branch, made remarkable improvements in his 12th grade year. Thomas went from never qualifying for a district championship as a junior to scoring and placing in the 55 meter hurdles finals at the state indoor meet as a senior to help Western Branch to the team title. Thomas was a state qualifier in the spring in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles with personal bests of 14.56 and 39.47 respectively.

James Poyer is a graduating senior from Hanover High School in Mechanicsville, Virginia. Poyer was an individual state qualifier in the cross country and the 1600 meter run indoors during his senior year. The George Mason University bound Poyer established the Hanover High School record in the 1600 meter run with a 4:23 performance at the Central Region Outdoor Championships.

William Miller is a graduating senior from Liberty Christian Academy in Lynchburg, Virginia. A native of the Bahamas, Miller was a two-time VISAA state champion at 400 meters (2011, 2012) including a personal best performance of 48.49 at St. Christopher's School in May for the outdoor championship meet. Miller also excelled in the 500 meter dash indoors with a high school best of 1:06.56 and ran on LCA's 4x400 meter relay which was one of the fastest squads in the state this past year.

Arthur McDuffy is a graduating senior from Chantilly High School in Chantilly, Virginia. McDuffy starred in the jumps for the Chargers including a strong senior year finish by earning a pair of All-State honors with top 8 finishes in the long jump and triple jump at the Group AAA State Outdoor Championships. The Concorde District indoor meet record holder and 2012 Northern Region outdoor champ in the triple jump, McDuffy posted high school best marks of 22'8" in the long jump and 47'4.25" in the triple jump.

Katie Wood is a graduating senior from Mills Godwin High School in Richmond, Virginia. Wood finished her distance running career at Godwin with personal bests of 5:26 for 1600, 11:38 for 3200, and 19:20 for 5000 meters as an All-Region and state qualifier in cross country (2011) and outdoor track in the 3200 (2011). Wood is headed to the University of South Carolina and hopes to become a high school teacher and coach someday.

Logan Edwards is a graduating senior from Cosby High School in Midlothian, Virginia. Edwards was a Central Region runner-up twice in the discus and All-State performer twice in the event as well as All-State finisher indoors in the shot put to help Cosby girls to the 2012 Group AAA state indoor team title. With personal best marks of 38'7.25" in the shot put and 126'8" in the discus, Edwards now moves to Virginia Military Institute to compete collegiately.

Erin Dalton is a graduating senior from Mills Godwin High School in Richmond, Virginia.  Dalton qualified for state competition three times as a junior and senior in the 3200 meter run including a recent 11:08 PR run at the Group AAA State Outdoor Championships. The All-Central Region distance runner with additional PR's of 5:11 for 1600 meters and 19:12 for 5K will move onto UNC-Ashville to run cross country and track in the fall.

Audree Green is a graduating senior from Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Green was a multi-versatile athlete for the Dolphins as she competed in the jumps, throws, sprints, and hurdles including personal bests of 1:02 in the 400 meter dash, 5'2" in the high jump, 16'7" in the long jump, and 33'7.50" in the triple jump. She will be staying local for college at Virginia Wesleyan College.

Desmond Fogg is a graduating senior from Warwick High School in Newport News, Virginia. Fogg is one of the better distance runners from Warwick High School in many years as a state qualifier both indoor and outdoor individually as well as anchoring their 4x800 meter relay to a fifth place 7:54 performance at the AAA State Outdoor Meet.  Fogg heads to Norfolk State University with high school personal bests of 2:00 for 800, 4:23 for 1600, 9:53 for 3200, and 16:37 for 5000 meters.

Riley Brady is a graduating senior from Cosby High School in Midlothian, Virginia. Brady recently won the CJW Sports Medicine Comeback Athlete of the Year award in the Richmond area for his senior year return to competition after having surgery on his hip following a fracture in 11th grade. With high school PR's of 1:59 for 800 on the track and 16:52 for 5K in cross country, Brady looks to transition into training for and competing in triathlons in college at the University of South Carolina.

Cody Seymour is graduating senior from Cave Spring High School in Salem, Virginia. The 2012 Group AA state indoor champion at 3200 meters, Seymour had one of the most decorated high school careers ever by a distance runner at Cave Spring with numerous All-State honors as well as district and regional titles. The High Point University recruit leaves high school with personal best times of 4:21 for 1600, 9:24 for 3200, and 15:08 for 5000 meters.

Chris Peyton is a graduating senior from Deep Run High School in Glen Allen, Virginia. Peyton was member of their 4x400 meter relay, which qualified for the Group AAA State Championships this past outdoor season and has an open 400 meter dash personal best of 52.61. Peyton will be attending the United States Merchant Marine Academy and running track in college.

Miles Laubinger is a graduating senior from Langley High School in McLean, Virginia. Laubinger was a Group AAA state indoor qualifier at 1000 meters in 2012 and has run personal bests of 4:29 for 1600, 2:40 for 1000, and 2:00 for 800 meters. With numerous All-District honors in the Liberty District at Langley, Laubinger will next attend the University of South Carolina and study business as a major and music as a minor.

Joel Johnston is a graduating senior from Martinsville High School in Martinsville, Virginia.  Johnston, distance runner at Martinsville, first made a name for himself as the Region IV 1600 meter champion as a junior and had high school personal bests of 1:59 for 800 meters, 2:36 for 1000 meters, 4:22 for the mile, 4:21 for 1600 meters, and 16:29 for 5K.  The Group AA All-State 1000 meter performer Johnston will be attending Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee this fall on a cross country and track scholarship.

Nick Eghtesaad is a graduating senior from Woodbridge High School in Prince William County. Eghtesaad was an All-State finisher at the Group AAA State Championships in the 3200 meter run this past season with a personal best time of 9:26.97 for 8th place and won the Cardinal District Championships 1600 in a meet record time of 4:22.88. Eghtesaad is headed to the University of Mary Washington in the fall.

The first article in our Salute to Seniors series: Jesus Amezquita is a graduating senior from Mountain View High School in Stafford, Virginia. Amezquita was a distance runner for Mountain View with personal bests of 1:58 for 800 meters, 2:36 for 1000 meters, 4:21 for 1600 meters, and 9:29 for 3200 meters. He will be attending Wilmington University in Delaware this upcoming fall.
