Is Highland Road going to be available this year for CC? Who are the local runners to keep an eye on? Is anyone expected to give Matt Rice some good competition?

Our head coach said that all the local events will be at the fairgrounds this year. Does anyone know if that course has been mapped out and whether it is open to the public for practice?

Clubsouth Runners homepage shows a 2 mile race 7-21-10 at BREC park on Highland Rd. Is this a misprint? If it's available in July, it might be available in September.

What's so bad about the State Fairgrounds??

That's a 2 mile race...Hump Day 2 Milers...the part of the park that's being worked on right now is where the 2nd quarter mile of the 2nd mile of the 3 mile course is at...if that makes any sense. The 1st and 3rd miles of the 3 mile course (essentially - the 2 mile course) are unaffected.

The fairgrounds are pretty difficult to run on. It'll be interesting to see how a course will be prepped out there. Certainly is a shame Highland won't be used.

Seems like they could run the 2mile course(1st and 3rd mile) and then continue and run the 1st mile again(except in reverse). That would be 3 miles. Is there any reason this couldn't be done??

If you run the 1st mile in reverse as the final mile of the course, then you'll have top runners finishing down the straight as well as slower runners still coming down the straight to 2 miles. That'd be pretty confusing, yo.

Good point. That was a pretty stupid idea. It seems like there should be some route that would work.

Nah. It's not stupid. It could work if you made a split in the course to make a distinction between finishers and those going through to 2 miles. The problem there is you can't have the split up during the start of the race since the whole straight is needed. The split would have to be set up directly after the last runner goes up the hill after the first quarter mile. Another option is incorporating as much of the current 2nd mile section of the 3 mile course as possible after the construction is done and then utilizing the rugby fields to add on some of the lost distance. Just a thought. Not sure if any of the hosting teams have thought about this or not.

Neil Borel, the head XC coach at St. Michael, said that all the typical Baton Rouge meets will be held at Highland Road Park with the exception being the St. Michael scrimmage to be held on Sept 4th at the Fairgrounds. The second mile was modified due to the construction of the new parking lot, and BREC has promised to make a temporary fix to the middle bridge before the Bayou Boogie.

The fairgrounds is a very unpleasant place to run at. I ran there in a few races in high school and it was just miserable. I may be being a little too harsh, but I would definitely prefer Highland.

..Agree on this! I prefer highland.
