Colonels Win Big At Lion Invitational

HAMMOND, La – Looking to outdo its solid performance from last week, the Nicholls State University women's track and field team did one better this week, taking home four gold medals at Southeastern Lion Invitational on Friday.

Jackie White became the first Colonel athlete this year to win two events in one meet, taking home honors in the 800 and 1500-meter run events. Sarah Pressley won her first individual gold of the year in taking home the women's 3000-meter run title, while Jaimee Springer won the javelin throw for the second consecutive week.

White took the 800-meter title by a half second over the next closest competitor, finishing in 2:18.62, and then winning the 1500-meter event in 4:56.24, .20 seconds faster than Tessni Carruthers, who finished second in that race, and tenth in the 800-meter run in 2:25.76.

Pressley set a new personal best in the 3K, reaching the finish in 11:10.02, four seconds faster than second place. Her time is now sixth all time at Nicholls in the event. Emily Carrerre finished tenth overall in the event, clocking in at 12:03.22, also a PR.

Springer claimed her second javelin title of the year with a throw of 43.09 meters (141-04), while Aja Scott did one spot better than last week finishing second with a throw of 40.31 meters (132-03). Anna Foulds and Emily Rankin finished sixth and eighth in the event as well.

For the third-straight week, Kryshell Rolle broke her own school record in the 400-meter hurdles. This week she finished fourth in the event in 1:02.23, .16 seconds better than her time from last week at the Mississippi Open.

Quadri Newson set a new PR in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 25.05 seconds, moving up to sixth all-time at Nicholls in the event. Barlitra Dirance, who set a new school record in the 400-meter dash in Oxford last week, finished ninth in the 200-meter in 25.17 seconds which is seventh behind Newson.

Victoria Williams finished 12th in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 58.13 seconds which is now fifth all-time at Nicholls, while Ashley Johnson finished 14th and Alexandra Martin finished 25th.

Bailee Thibodeaux set a new PR in the women's discus throw, finishing 15th with a throw of 28.71 meters (94-02), while the women's 4x100 relay team finished sixth in 47.10 seconds, the fourth fastest for a relay group ever at Nicholls.

The Colonels will wrap up the regular season next week, before preparing for the SLC Championships in May in San Marcos, Texas.
