Colonels Have Strong Showing At McNeese Invite

LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Nicholls State University women's track and field squad had a strong showing at the Jeff Davis Bank McNeese Invite Friday, having multiple top-five finishes on the day.

The two best finishes came in the 800-meter-run and 55-meter-hurdles, as Ashley Johnson and Kryshell Rolleeach took home silver medals in their respective events.

Rolle finished second in her heat of the preliminaries with a time of 8.53 seconds, then flying past that in the finals finishing in 8.44 seconds.

Johnson finished in 2:19.10, a little less than three seconds behind the first place finisher in the women's 800-meter run and was followed in third place by teammate Jackie White who finished the race in 2:19.30.

Barlitra Dirance continued to have a solid indoor season, taking home third place in the women's 400-meter dash, crossing the tape in 59.30 seconds. Tessni Carruthers finished third in the 1-mile run, clocking in at 5:15.72, followed by Ingvild Vedde in fourth in 5:17.43.

Quadri Newson finished fourth in the women's 200-meter dash event, finishing in 26.17 seconds, while the women's 4x400-meter relay team finished second behind McNeese and ahead of Southeastern, finishing in 3:57.50.

The Colonels will now prepare for the 2012 Southland Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 24-25, held at the University of Oklahoma in Norman.
