Springer Prepares for Junior Pan Am Games

MIRAMAR, Fla. - Nicholls State University sophomore javelin thrower Jaimee Springer will represent Team Canada at the 2011 Junior Pan American Games in Mirimar, Florida on Friday.  The Colonel standout will take to the runway at 6:30 p.m. central time.

Springer finished just shy of an automatic qualification at the Canadian Junior National Track and Field Championships on Saturday, July 9.  However, the Lloydminster, Alberta native's appeal was approved by Athletics Canada, the national governing body for Canadian track and field on July 14.

Springer finished fourth at the meet with a mark of 42.23 m (138 ft. 6 in.), two spots away from an automatic qualification for the Junior Pan American Games.  However, after applying for an appeal based on her 2011 season best mark of 44.71 m (146 ft. 8.0 in.) set at the Cole Lancoln Twilight meet at UL-Lafayette in April that ranked her second among all Canadian juniors heading into the meet, Athletics Canada approved Springer for the Junior Pan Am Games.

Friday's Junior Pan Am Games appearance continues a summer full of highlights for Springer, who has competed in both the senior and junior national championship meets and won the CALTAF javelin championship to qualify to represent Team Alberta at the Western Canada Summer Games in August.

Springer has continued to build on a successful freshman season that saw her earn All-Southland Conference honors with a second place finish at the 2011 Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
