GAINESVILLE, Fla. -
The Nicholls State University women's track and field team put together an impressive showing on Saturday at one of the most prestigious early season meets in the region as the Colonels climbed the Southland Conference rankings in several events as the 67th annual Florida Pepsi Relays came to a close on Saturday.

The Nicholls javelin trio of freshman Jaimee Springer, sophomore Aja Scott and junior Danielle Daigle led the way.  Springer launched a throw of 43.88 m, giving her third place in the Southland Conference.  Scott, who began the week ranked second in the league in the javelin, earned a top ten finish with a throw of 42.50 m, and Daigle recorded a season-best heave of 42.10 m that ranks fourth in the conference.

The Colonels' 4x800 m relay team also turned in an impressive performance, taking fourth place with a time of 9:05.98.  In a field full of national powerhouses, the Nicholls quartet of seniors Jessica McLeod, Imma Kosgei, Kadi Whisnant and freshman Jackie White finished less than a second behind host Florida, less than eight seconds behind Big Ten power Penn State and less than ten seconds behind meet champion North Carolina.  The Colonels edged out national powers South Carolina and East Carolina en route to their top five finish.

"Overall, we came in against one of the deepest fields in the country and our girls met or exceeded our expectations," head coach Scott Williamson.  "We only lost events to some of the top programs in the region and in the country.  We are such a small team that it's hard to do a lot at events this size, but I'm proud of how our girls measured up this weekend."

The Colonels will now return to Thibodaux to prepare for the Ole Miss Invitational next weekend.
