Nicholls Track Prepares for Prestigious Pepsi Relays

THIBODAUX - After setting six school records through the first two meets of the outdoor season, the Colonels will look to continue building momentum when Nicholls takes on its toughest field of the young season as Nicholls heads to the University of Florida for the 67th annual meeting of the prestigious Pepsi Relays hosted by UF at the Percy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium in Gainesvill, Fla. beginning Friday.

The Colonels enter this weeks competition riding high after setting five school records at the LSU Relays last week.  Junior sprinter Samantha Calhoun begins the week as the fastest woman in the Southland Conference, having clocked in with school record times of 11.79 and 11.60 at LSU.  In the Colonels last outing, Calhoun also led a group of sprinters that set a new school record in the sprint medley relay and recorded the program's fastest March times in the 4x100 m relay.

Nicholls also boasts one if its deepest throwing groups in years as sophomore Aja Scott and freshman Jaimee Springer both begin the week ranked in the top five in the conference in the javelin while freshman Kerri Simmons is fresh off turning in a school record in the shot put that ranks sixth in the league.

The Pepsi Relays will also see the debut of the Colonels' steeplechase specialist, senior distance runner Kadi Whisnant.  The Baton Rouge native established herself as one of the top steeplers in the NCAA East Region last season after cruising to a Southland Conference championship.

The two day meet opens Friday and concludes Saturday.  Following the meet, the Colonels will turn their attention to the Ole Miss Invitational on April 9.
