LAFAYETTE, La. -
Senior high jumper Chelsea Dockrey set a new school record, sophomore javelin thrower Aja Scott recorded a personal best mark and senior distance runner Jessica McLeod recorded the second best time in school history in the 1500 m to cap an auspicious start to the 2011 outdoor season for the Nicholls State University women's track and field team on Saturday at the Louisiana Classics hosted by UL-Lafayette.

After freshman thrower Kerri Simmons recorded a new school record in the shot put on the first day of competition on Friday night, Dockrey recorded the Colonels second school record of the week by clearing 1.75 m (5 ft. 8.75 in.) in the high jump, likely giving herself a chance at qualifying for the 2011 NCAA National Championship East Preliminary Meet.

Also giving herself a strong shot at postseason competition was Scott.  The Colonel javelin thrower launched a toss of 44.05 m, giving herself a new personal record, recording the second best mark in school history and surpassing last year's qualyfiing standards for the NCAA National Championship East Preliminary Meet.

Meanwhile, McLeod clocked in at 4:41.15 in the 1500 m, finishing second in the event and turning in the second best time in school history.

The Colonels will look to maintain their momentum on when they return to action next week at the LSU Relays on March 25 and 26.
