Colonel Track Look to Continue Success at McNeese

LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Nicholls State University women's track and field team returns to action on Friday as the Colonels head to McNeese State for the 2011 Jeff Davis Bank Indoor Invitational.  Nicholls will be hoping to repeat the succes they found in Lake Charles last season when the Colonels set a pair of school records at McNeese.

In their last outing, the Colonels set new record marks in the indoor mile and the 4x400 m relay.  Nicholls hopes that a strong distance crew, led by seniors Kadi Whisnant and Lauren Jones, will continue to lead the way on Friday.

Through the firs three meets of the season, Jones and Whisnant have combined to have a hand in four school records this season.  Jones set a new standard in the 5K at the Leonard Hilton Invitational with a time of 17:57.10 that is currently still the best mark in the Southland Conference this yeaer, and Whisnant set new standards in the 3K, mile and led the distance medley relay team to a new all-time best.

In the power events, Nicholls is led by junior Samantha Calhoun.  The Morgan City native set a new school record in the 60 m at the season opening meet on Dec. 3 and heads into this week's event ranked third in the conference in that event.  Calhoun also ranks third in the conference in the 200 m with a time of 25.90. 

The Jeff Davis Bank Invitational will get underway at 3:00 p.m. with the shot put opening the field events.  Following their trip to McNeese, the Colonels will head to LSU for the LSU Twilight in the Colonels' final tune-up prior to the 2011 Southland Conference Indoor Championships.
