Nicholls Athletics to Induct Five into Hall of Fame

THIBODAUX - The Nicholls State University Athletic Department announced its 2010 Hall of Fame class on Wednesday.  The five-member class is made up of: former baseball player Rondon Anderson, former men's soccer coach Lester Bimah, former quarterback Doug Hudson, former basketball player Chris Jennings and former football player Darryl Pounds will be inducted at the 2010 Hall of Fame Ceremony at Bayou Country Club in Thibodaux prior to the Nicholls vs. Sam Houston State football game on Oct. 9.

Anderson, who played for the Colonels from 1999-2002, left his mark on the Nicholls record book during his four-year career at Nicholls.  Anderson, an All-Southland Conference second team pick in 2000 and 2001, goes down as the best power-hitting middle infielder in Nicholls history.  Anderson still owns the school's single season and career home run records with 15 and 30, respectively.

In 2000, Anderson led the Colonels in batting average (.335), runs (38), hits (70), and RBI (51).  As a junior in 2001, Anderson led the team in runs (46), doubles (15) and home runs (15).

Lester Bimah led the Nicholls men's soccer team from 1981 through 1988.  Bimah led the Colonels to four consecutive winning seasons from 1984 through 1987.  As an affiliate member of the Southeastern Conference, Bimah led Nicholls to the finals of the 1988 SEC Tournament.  Under Bimah's guidance, two Colonels were named to the Region Three All-Star Team in 1987 and 1988 and three Colonels went on to participate in the Olympic Development Program tryouts.

Former Nicholls signal caller Doug Hudson enters the Colonel Hall of Fame after claiming nearly every passing record during his time in Thibodaux.  From 1983 through 1986, Hudson set 21 single season and career school passing records.  Hudson was a first team All-Gulf Star Conference selection, an honorable mention All-America pick by the Associated Press, and was a Football News Second Team All-America selection in 1986.  The following spring, the Kansas City Chiefs made Hudson a seventh round pick in the 1987 NFL Draft.

Chris Jennings was an intergral part of the Nicholls basketball team's move from Division II to Division I during his four-year career at Nicholls.  Jennings led the Colonels to a 1978-79 Gulf South Conference Championship and a 1979-80 Division II Sweet 16 appearance.  In 1980-81, Nicholls first season as a Division I school, Jennings led the team with a 17.4 point/game scoring average.  Jennings owns the Nicholls records for free throws made in one half (12) and single season free-throw percentange (90.0).

Former Nicholls football defensive back Darryl Pounds was an All-American selection in three of his four seasons in Thibodaux from 1991 through 1994.  Pounds was a first-team All-Southland Conference selection all four years at Nicholls.  Pounds owns the school record for interceptions in a single game (3) and career kickoff return yardage (1,555 yards, 21.9 yard/return).  Pounds ranks third in school history in career interceptions (14) and ninth in total tackles (335).  Pounds was drafted in the third round of the 1995 NFL Draft.

The 2010 Nicholls Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place at Bayou Country Club in Thibodaux.  Tickets to the event are $10 each and available by calling the Nicholls Athletic Department at (985) 448-4794
