Bourgeois Claims National Academic Honor

USTFCCCA Outdoor Track and Field Division I All-Academic Honorees

NEW ORLEANS - Former Nicholls State University javelin thrower Leslie Bourgeois picked up her latest honor on Friday afternoon as the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association named Bourgeois an Outdoor Track and Field Division I All-Academic Honoree for the second time in her career and the second time in as many seasons.

Bourgeois finishes her career as the most decorated student athlete in the history of Nicholls athletics.  The Raceland native was a four-time NCAA postseason qualifier, a three-time Southland Conference champion and a two-time finalist in the javelin at the national meet during her career.  Bourgeois is also a two-time Southland Conference all-academic team member, and her selection to the USTFCCA's list is her second in as many seasons.

In her final season with the Colonels, the Central Lafourche High School product became the first Colonel student athlete to advance to the national championship in consecutive seasons when she advanced to the 2010 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field National Championships and placed 12th, just 1.5 feet shy of being one of the top eight American born finishers, thereby earning All-American status.
