Tia Taylor Looking To Reach New Heights At AAU Jr. Games

This year marks an important stage in Tia Taylor's career.

The Saint Basil Academy (PA) athlete recently finished her freshman season in high school, claiming her first PIAA Class AA championship in the 100mH, though she missed out on qualifying in her favored event, the long jump, at the district championships.

No worries.

Taylor, who's won three consecutive long jump titles in various age group brackets at the AAU Junior Olympic Games, is right back to the grind this weekend as she heads to the AAU Region 02 meet in New Jersey.

Taylor will feature in the 100mH, long jump, and triple jump.

The emerging athlete recently competed at New Balance Nationals Outdoor, where she placed third in the freshman long jump competition with a mark of 17-9.5, and was fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 37-6.5.

Over the outdoor season, Taylor nailed a career best of 19-3 in the long jump at the Diamond State Relays. She scored a season-best of 14.48 seconds in the 100mH at the Pennsylvania state championships.

The previous winter, she won AAU Indoor National titles in the long jump (17-8.5) and 60mH (9.19).

Now a year older and wiser -- in the 15-16 age group bracket -- Taylor will hope to reemerge among the national landscape.

Don't miss Taylor at the AAU Region 02 meet this weekend.
