Fourteen-year-old Claire Allen of Geneseo, New York, died after being hit by a car while running at cross country practice on September 7. The freshman at Geneseo High was pronounced dead around 4:25 PM the same day, according to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.

News 8 Rochester reported that the 14-year-old was out on a 35-minute out-and-back run with a teammate when she was struck by the car. Her teammate was not injured.

It was reported that Allen was turning around to come back to the school when she was struck by the vehicle heading south on Route 39.

The local sheriff's office identified the driver as a 51-year-old Geneseo woman. At this time the driver is not facing any legal charges, and cell phone use and driver impairment have both been ruled out.
