McNeese's Washington wins in Baton Rouge; McRae sets record in Fayetteville

DeAnn Washington produced the only first place for McNeese State and Christi McRae set a school record as Cowboy and Cowgirl track and field athletes participated in meets on two fronts Friday.

Washington won the women’s shot put event at LSU with a toss of 44-0 1/2.

In the opening day of the meet at the University of Arkansas, the top effort by a Cowboy or Cowgirl was a 24.56 timing by McRae in taking 11th place in the 200 meter dash. That was her career best and set a McNeese school record, breaking the mark of 24.70 that had been set by Annice Small in 1998.

Also in the first day of the meet on the LSU campus, Cowboy Jacob Domingue finished third in the men’s shot put with a throw of 52-8.

Also in Fayetteville, Lindsay Brooks and Andrea Myers tied for sixth place in the women’s high jump at 5-5, Whitney McKinnie ran a 25.87 in the women’s 200 meters and Ronald Stine posted a 22.11 in the men’s 200 meters.

At LSU, the men finished 12th in the 4x400 meter relay at 3:29.80l, Jarrett LeBlanc ran a 4:36.08 for sixth place in the mile and Jared Clifton posted a 46-9 1/2 shot put effort for ninth place.

Other results for the women in Baton Rouge had Alvy Garragher running 5:37.6 for ninth place in the women’s mile, Aisling Casey going 11:38.62 for 12th in the women’s 3000 meter run and Washington posted a 41-5 1/4 throw for 14th place in the weigh throw.

McNeese coach Jon Fagan was competing in the men’s heptathlon at Arkansas and was among the leaders after the first day, having won the long jump and 60 meter dash competition and placed second in the shot put.

    Both meets continue on Saturday.
