BATON ROUGE – Freshman Alex Breaux turned in another Top 10 finish for Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns men’s cross country team here Saturday morning in the LSU Tigers Cross Country Festival held at Highland Road Park.
Breaux traversed the men’s 8k course in 25:43.0 and finished eighth out of 76 runners. It’s the second straight week he earned a Top 10 finish as he finished fourth at ULM last week in his collegiate debut. Breaux bested his ULM time (26:34.9) by 51 seconds.
The Cajuns men finished sixth (out of 11 schools) with 148 points.
Joining Breaux in earning points for the UL men were Reese Lee (29th – 27:38.1), Joby Gisclair (41st – 28:46.7), Stuart Theriot (42nd – 28:56.2) and Jaron Ortego (45th – 29:05.8).
The Cajuns women placed seventh out of nine schools with 176 points. Louisiana ran its first 6k race of the season.
Paula Parker was the women’s representative in the Top 25 as she ended the meet 25th out of 66 runners with a time of 24:46.0. It’s the second straight outing Parker finished as the Cajuns’ top finisher.
Ashley Faulk ran 13 seconds behind Parker and wound up in 29th place. This is the second straight season Faulk finishes 29th at the LSU Tigers Cross Country Festival.
This weekend’s meet was the first of back-to-back weekends for the Cajuns’ runners at SEC venues. Next week Louisiana travels to Auburn, Ala., on Saturday, Oct. 4 for the Tiger Invitational at Indian Pines Golf Course. The women's 5K race is set to take off at 9:30 a.m. with the men's 8K race to follow at 10:15 a.m.
