ULM?s Leap to Success Continues at Vulcan Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the third consecutive week, the jumpers from the ULM track & field squad highlighted a strong showing for the Warhawks at the Vulcan on Friday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

Junior Corey Wesley earned runner-up in the long jump with a season-best leap of 7.26m. Right behind, freshman Jamel Parharm Jr. registered a personal-best of 7.25m to take third out of 19. It was the first of two personal-records for Parharm as he also tallied a third-place mark of 14.93m in the triple jump.

Junior Rychlend Martin-Horne was ULM's top women's jumper as she placed seventh in the high jump after clearing the bar at 1.58m. Sophomore Adriunna Brown finished top-10 in both the long jump and triple jump with scores of 5.36m and 10.86m, respectively.

Another runner-up finish came in the men's 4x400m relay. The team of sophomore Andre Phillips and juniors Nigel Cribbs, Mark Demus and Andrew Tate sprinted for a season-best time of 3:18.12.

Junior Ke'Andrea Wilson continued her strong indoor season with a top-five appearance in the women's 200m with a season-best time of 25.13.

Men's distance running also stood out for ULM. Sophomore Vinnie Van Puyvelde turned in a sixth-place time of 4:23.36 in the mile, while senior Hillary Kirwa was close by at 4:24.81.

Kirwa also posted a sixth-place showing in the 3000m at 8:39.83. Sophomore Jonathan Jeffcoat set a personal-record in the event at 9:21.23.

In throws, sophomore Alton Clay Jr. threw for a personal-record mark of 16.36m in the weight throw to take eighth.

The women saw a pair of top-10 finishers in the shot put as freshman Dominique Allen threw for a mark of 12.66m and sophomore Alexis Gordon 12.00m. Gordon also took seventh in her first-ever weight throw competition with a 15.30m toss.

It marked the final meet of the month for ULM as it takes some time off from competition before returning to the Birmingham CrossPlex on Feb. 13-14 for the Samford Invitational.
