Fortenberry Shines Again at UAB Green and Gold Invitational

Women’s Team Places Three in Top 8 in 60-Meter Hurdles

RESULTS

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Another stand-out performance from Alexia Fortenberry helped anchor a successful trip to the UAB Green and Gold Invitational for the New Orleans track and field team on Saturday at the Birmingham Crossplex.

Overall the Privateers took 10th on the men's side out of 19 teams and 15th on the women's side out of 24 as both teams saw a number of personal and school records fall.

"Overall it was a solid third meet," said New Orleans head coach Benjamin Dalton. "Almost the whole team gained new personal records and we're learning and getting better and that's exciting to see as conference gets closer."

Fortenberry took top billing in the 60 meter hurdles, crossing the finish line with a time of 8.50 and was followed by teammate Farydah Inoussa who placed third with an 8.77.

Not to be outdone, Michael Batson picked up a first place finish of his own, running a 1:53.00 in the 800 meter run along with Constant Pretorius' top-tier time in the 400 meter dash with a 49.05.

Pretorius also nailed down a top three finish in the 200 meters with a 21.91, a top five number in the Southland Conference so far this season.

Clayton O'Callaghan again placed in the 5,000 meter run, posting a time of 16:12.70, taking third place in the event while Callie Wilcox finished fourth in the women's 5,000 meters at 19:57.70.

In the women's pole vault Bailey Daigle tied a school record with a 3.35 meter jump, finishing sixth in the event.

Darius Lipps picked up a top five finish in the men's 60 meter dash with a 7.02 while Dario Scantlebury ran a 7.21 in the event, setting a new personal record.

In the women's 400 meters it was Mikayla Barber placing in the top 10, finishing up in seventh place with a 58.80.

The men's one-mile run saw Jared Robertson earn the team points with a sixth place ending, running a personal best of 4:33.17.

New Orleans returns to the track next weekend, Friday, Jan. 30, as the squad heads west to Houston, Texas to take part in the Howie Ryan Invitational.
