Cowboys win Stampede for second straight team win

LAKE CHARLES – Former McNeese standout runner Jarret LeBlanc set the pace at Saturday's McNeese Cowboy Club ASICS Cowboy Stampede with a first place finish mark of 19:08.30 in the four-mile race, leading the way for his fellow Cowboy runners to take the team title in the men's division.
 
It's the second consecutive win for the Cowboys on the season. McNeese took the team title at the Rice Invitational two weeks ago.
 
Senior Ryan Holroyd was the first current Cowboy runner to cross the line as he finished third among the college runners with a time of 19:32.84 and posted an average mile time of 4:53.2.
 
Freshman Nathan Jones was fifth with a time of 19:45.62 followed by sophomore Oliver James with a sixth place finish at 19:47.22, junior Nicholas Kiprono was eighth with a 19:51.78, and senior Brock Moreaux in ninth with a 19:51.89 to round out the scoring for the Cowboys.
 
Three other Cowboy runners finished in the top 25 led by William Hamilton in 15th place with a time of 20:06.20, Enrique Soto in 16th place at 20:16.17 and Bradley Traviss in 22nd at 20:39.43.
 
McNeese finished with 31 team points to beat out Louisiana-Lafayette with 66 points, LSU at 73, Tulane 83, Southeastern Louisiana 146, Northwestern State 150 and Southern 225.
 
On the women's side, McNeese finished fourth with 80 points as freshman Amity Delaney led the squad with an eighth place finish and a time of 18:05.05 in the 5-kilometer run.
 
LSU won the team title with 34 points followed by Tulane 54, Louisiana-Lafayette 68, McNeese, Southeastern Louisiana 146, Northwestern State 151 and Southern 194.
 
Senior Corissa Storms finished 13th with an 18:35.2 time followed by a 15th place finish by senior Rhian Dawes at 18:38.2, sophomore Alison Smegal in 16th with a time of 18:41.1 and the scoring rounded out by a 28th place finish by senior Kaitlyn Jeter with a 19:08.9.
 
Other Cowgirl finishers included Sarah Booth in 35th with a time of 19:17.5, Angelina Covington in 38th at 19:21.8, Danielle Jones in 45th at 20:11.9, Emily Mouton in 49th at 20:24.9, Lauren Cooper in 51st at 20:36.1, and Monica Fernandez in 54th at 20:47.4.
 
Francine Nzilampa, running unattached, won the individual title with a time of 17:12.4 as LSU junior Andria Aguilar was the first collegian to cross the finish line with a time of 17:17.4.
