Jaimee Springer Obliterates School Record to Lead Nicholls at J. Fred Duckett Twilight

HOUSTON, Texas – The Nicholls State University women's track and field team traveled to Houston, Texas for the J. Fred Duckett Twilight at Rice University on Saturday, recording five, top-10 finishes and a school record.
 
The Colonels were originally scheduled to travel to Oxford, Ms. for the Ole Miss Invitational, but the meet was canceled after safety concerns were raised about the integrity of the track surface.
 
Jaimee Springer was the story of the day at Rice, taking first in the women's javelin; throwing a personal best and school record 50.54 meters. The throw was four feet farther than the previous school record, eight feet farther than Springer's personal best and twenty feet ahead of anyone at Rice at Saturday.
 
Destiny Lemalle tallied a new personal best in the triple jump, finishing seventh with a distance of 11.51 meters to round out field events for Nicholls.
 
On the track, Jackie White finished sixth in the 800-meter dash, recording a time of 2:13.13.
 
The 4x100 meter relay team of Quadri NewsonKyesha Thomas, Ashley Johnson and Dasia Mccullum finished eighth, with a time of 47.91.
 
Ashley Wheeler ran a 15.46 in the 100-meter hurtles, finishing eighth on the day.
 
The Colonels will make the trip to Huntsville, Texas to take on the Sam Houston Invitational on Saturday, May 3.
